How to edit and post charts onto the forum - a selection of  tutorials.

Spike's Tutorials
Editing Charts before posting

Lester's Tutorials:

Part 1: Posting charts that already appear on another website:
FOR INTERNET EXPLORER
(variations may occur for NETSCAPE).

  1. Locate the charting company and chart you would like to "Image"
    Example:
    Big Charts

  2. On the above site, point and "right click" on the chart itself. You should see a mini window with some choices pop up.

  3. "Left click" on "Properties". The property window should pop up. This is the properties of the actual chart. Take note of the "Address (URL)".

  4. Highlight the URL's Address. You do this by placing your pointer at the beginning of the address, hold down the left mouse button, and move the pointer to the end of the address and release the button. Note: Some of the address can be hidden. Make sure you get it all. You can also begin the highlight at the address end and move towards the front.

  5. "Right click" on the highlighted URL. A little window should pop up.

Now you're ready to for the next set of steps:

  1. "Left click" on "copy". You have now copied the address to your clip board.

  2. Close the properties window.

  3. Go to the forum where you would like to print the chart.

  4. Make sure your flashing cursor is in the message window of the forum (where you type what you wish to say).

  5. Left click on "EDIT" on your browser's menu bar.

  6. Left click on "Paste". The images URL should now appear in the message text.

    Example:
    http://chart.bigcharts.com/bc3/quickchart/chart.asp?symb=nt&compidx
    =aaaaa%3A0&ma=0&maval=9&uf=0&lf=1&lf2=0&lf3=0&type=2&size=2&
    state=8&sid=175653&style=320&time=10&freq=2&nosettings=1&rand=7
    150&mocktick=1&rand=7999

  7. Add < *img  src = " to the front of the URL and " > to the back. Please note that I have added the * so you can see the code in this post. REMOVE ALL * and that is the actual code you use. (there is a space between img and src)

    Example:
    < *imgsrc = "http://chart.bigcharts.com/bc3/quickchart/chart.asp?symb
    =nt&compidx=aaaaa%3A0&ma=0&maval=9&uf=0&lf=1&lf2=0&lf3=0&type
    =2&size=2&state=8&sid=175653&style=320&time=10&freq=2&nosettings
    =1&rand=7150&mocktick=1&rand=7999" >

By removing the spacing in the above, the code is active and will show the chart. Until you post the message, the chart will appear as Text, but once you post the message, the code makes the actual chart appear.

Part 2: Posting a chart from your own charting software:

So, the steps to putting your chart from Metastock onto a forum are:

  1. Create a folder on YOUR computer for saved Metastock HTML files.

  2. In Metastock, with your chart opened, choose "file" and "Save As HTML." Save this file in your folder created in Step 1.

  3. Go to your on-line picture saving site and upload the file you saved in step 2 to your picture web site. Each site will be a little different in this process and a little time will need to be spent becoming familiar with it.

  4. At this stage your picture is accessible from the web and following the procedure from step 8 onwards in the previous tutorial "Posting Charts-1" can be used to put it on the forum.

It can take a little time and practice to get it down, but once you know how, it can be a breeze. Anybody wanting to practice, please feel free to try it out on the forum by posting it as "Practice" and the moderators will delete the practice posts after a short while to avoid clutter.
