Commodity Futures Trading advisors come in several different classifications, the most commonly known are the publishing CTA's , traders who have registered with the NFA and CFTC, paid a fee and passed a simple test to qualify them for the Commodity Trading Advisor designation. Most Publishing CTA's are not allowed to give specific individually tailored trading advice or trade recommendations.
